Mirror supported iPhone content to your car display

DashTV uses an iOS screen broadcast to show supported iPhone content on a compatible CarPlay display while parked. It requires no jailbreak, but it cannot override an app's screen-capture restrictions.

How to start DashTV mirroring

  1. Connect while parked. Use your vehicle's existing wired or wireless CarPlay connection and open DashTV on the car screen.
  2. Open Mirror on your iPhone. Tap Start Mirroring.
  3. Choose the broadcast extension. Select DashTV Mirror in the iOS broadcast sheet, then start the broadcast.
  4. Open supported content. Turn the phone sideways for landscape content when appropriate. Stop the broadcast before the vehicle moves.

These are DashTV's in-app mirroring steps. The feature is different from Apple's AirPlay Screen Mirroring picker: simply having an AirPlay receiver or a CarPlay connection does not establish DashTV video compatibility.

Why protected apps can show a black screen

Some services prevent iOS from capturing their audio or video. The phone's app interface may be visible while the protected video remains black. DashTV does not remove that protection, and a paid DashTV plan does not grant a streaming subscription or guarantee that a service will allow capture.

Apple also notes that some apps may not allow audio or video recording in its screen-recording guidance. That general platform restriction is a useful distinction when troubleshooting a mirror rather than a downloaded video file.

What other people can see

Screen mirroring can expose notifications, messages and whatever else appears on your iPhone. Enable a Focus and close private content before broadcasting. DashTV's mirror is not uploaded to a DashTV cloud recording service. Read the Privacy Policy for the app's local processing and third-party service details.

Mirroring or the built-in player?

For your own downloaded files, the video library and player can be the more direct route. Use mirroring when you want to share supported on-screen content. For a website, the browser handoff lets the page move between the phone and car display instead.

Full-screen car mode requires DashTV Pro. Compatibility depends on the iPhone's iOS version and the head unit; there is no published model-by-model guarantee. See requirements and troubleshooting.
